90 Hours of Deep-Dive Workshops and Educational Sessions
UKISUG Connect 2017 brings together all aspects of SAP in one convenient venue. The event program offers deep-dive workshops – running from 90 minutes to three hours in length – that will cover topics related to specific SAP technologies and project management techniques. This year’s program provides more than 90 hours of education, enabling delegates to get their questions answered and master topics relevant to the specific needs of their businesses.
On Monday and Tuesday, delegates can participate in any of the fourteen topic streams aimed at providing fresh insight on perennial favourites like Financial Excellence, Human Resources (HR), Payroll, and Business Intelligence, SAP BusinessObjects, and User Experience. In addition, a virtual stream on General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has been built into the event program for the benefit of delegates.
The HR stream will showcase customer projects around SuccessFactors, with six of the eight sessions being led by customers sharing their experiences, knowledge, and lessons learned. The SAP S/4 HANA stream opens with a session by Derek Prior, a former Gartner SAP analyst, and a customer story from Northern Gas Networks. “One of the key things we’re trying to do this year is bring in more customer experience around things like SAP S/4 HANA and SuccessFactors,” says Dale. “Last year, we also had an S/4 HANA stream, but this year we aim to have more customers speaking in there, sharing their experience and perspectives.”
New to the program this year are topic streams for User Adoption, aimed at helping customers drive adoption and buy-in of newly implemented SAP packages in their organisations, as well as Creating Disruptive Advantage, which explores the role of emerging technologies from a business perspective.
“We have the Creating Disruptive Advantage stream, which is not just looking at the technology side, but also the human side and how it affects our members. There is still a lot of education required around this and people want to understand what it means to them,” says Dale. “What are the business benefits that can be driven in the future by leveraging new and emerging technology?”
In the keynotes, Hala Zeine, senior vice president for SAP Portfolio and Chief Business Development Officer, SAP, will look further into this topic and will be joined on the main stage by Ray Wang, principal analyst, founder, and chairman at Constellation Research. In his keynote on Tuesday morning, Wang discusses “What happens when the machines take over?” – an examination into the human side of emerging technologies. Mike Slater, SAP UKI managing director, will address the delegates about SAP’s strategy specific to the UK and Ireland market. Following these keynotes on Monday, winners of the SAP Quality Awards will be honoured on stage. Two of the winners will present the outcomes of their projects and discuss which quality principles were employed.
SAP Usability testing will also be available at the event this year. Delegates can pre-register for an opportunity to experience one of five SAP solutions before they are offered to customers. By providing their feedback, delegates can participate in shaping future software solutions. “It’s really popular with the delegates,” says Dale. “This is the third time we’ve done this and we’re getting more and more engagement.”
16 Hours of Quality Networking – and a Charity Prize Draw
Networking is one of the key pillars of UKISUG. The annual conference is designed to maximise opportunities for people to connect and reflect with networking activities built in throughout the three-day program. The first networking event takes place on Sunday evening with a two-hour session, allowing delegates who just arrived in town to come by the ICC and meet up with other delegates, SAP experts, and UKISUG personnel – while enjoying the free drinks, food and entertainment.
The exhibition floor has also been reinvented to offer more areas for interaction and networking with heightened traffic and maximised exposure for exhibition partners. The floor will include two innovation areas to showcase applications that can be built on SAP Leonardo, SAP’s digital portfolio for emerging technologies, such as Internet of things, artificial intelligence, and blockchain. There will also be a coffee lounge, sponsored by SAP, where delegates can experience a demo of the SAP Digital Boardroom.
SUGfest – UKISUG Connect’s popular evening social event – returns once again on Monday. This year’s multi-room event is themed “Winter Wonderland.” Delegates can take in live music at the Main Stage area. Returning this year are The Bogus Brothers, celebrated as one of the UK’s top party bands. Or, they can unwind at the Casino with a round of blackjack or poker. Or, simply enjoy a good laugh at the ever-popular Manford’s Comedy Club, which has been expanded this year to host four sets of top comedy acts. SUGfest has two new areas: Buskers Ice Cave (with a mouthwatering buffet of Arctic prawn, crab and smoked salmon, and sushi) and a Festive Market, with games and traditional food choices in a Christmas market setting.
UKISUG Connect 2017 wraps up on Tuesday with a charity prize draw. Prizes include £500 of High Street vouchers that can be used for holiday shopping, passes to next year’s UKISUG event, and Bose stereo speakers and headphones.
